Ghosted · business plan

How a free game makes money.

Ghosted copies five real indie visual novel businesses: a free start, a paid full game, a Fan Pack, a supporter page and merch drops. Every number below is an estimate and shows its math. Nothing is for sale until a parent opens the seller account.

Scene 01 · Revenue model

Five ways in. One free door.

Players come in through the free Part 1. A few of them pay for more. That is the funnel every competitor below runs.

What Ghosted does better

  • No download

Part 1 runs in the browser on a phone. None of the five references do that on their main page.

  • You are in the ad

You type your name on the first screen, and the ad shows that screen.

  • No unsold stock

Merch is made only after a pre-order window closes. No money is spent up front.

  • Numbers with their math

Every money number shows its source and says estimate. The roadmap moves on player counts.

Scene 03 · Merch math

What each item leaves.

Maker costs are small-batch quotes from overseas printers plus a shipping cushion. A US maker costs more, and prices would go up.

Scene 04 · Ads

Ads find players.

The ads do not sell anything directly. They bring people to the free Part 1, and a few of those players buy later. A parent posts them on the studio account; paid boosts start only after an organic post brings players, with a small test budget a parent sets.

Scene 05 · Year one

Three estimates.

Players means people who finish Part 1. The buy rates come from real ratios: Bad Faith sold about 1 full game per 10 demo downloads; Ghosted's own plan assumes 2 in 100.

Studio rules

  • Nothing is for sale yet. Selling opens only through a parent's itch.io account, with a parent's OK.
  • First names or stage names only, for Koii and every voice actor. No schools, ages or addresses.
  • A parent says OK before any ad runs and before any money moves.
  • Only Koii's own drawings, real game screenshots and public domain music. No new AI characters.
